Y Balance Test (YBT)
Assessing proper stability and control of your muscles
The Y Balance Test is utilized to analyze how well you are able to move each of your limbs (right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg) while maintaining a stable trunk and core. This is a term that we refer to as motor control, a process in which your brain is able to properly activate and coordinate the muscles and limbs involved in the performance of a motor skill or movement. This information is used to measure how well you are balanced between your right and left sides and if there are any functional imbalances that could again predispose you to injury and reduce your performance level. Proper motor control can be lost as a result of prior injury, poor movement patterns, lack of activity, poor posture, and other lifestyle factors.
